Net Metering

Net Metering

Legend

  1. Panel

The solar panel collects the sun's energy and converts it into DC power
  2. Inverter

The inverter takes the DC power from the panel and converts it into AC power
  3. Main Utility Meter (Bi-Directional)

Measures the inflow or outflow of electricity from or to the Utility grid
  4. Home Electrical System

Uses the electricity either produced by your Solar System or purchased from the Utility
  5. Envoy Communications Gateway

Connects to your home's wiring and collects information from your solar system. This information is then communicated via your home's Internet connection to Enlighten where production information and history is stored and accessible to you. This system also ensures that the system is fully functional, and if a problem occurs, you will be notified via email.

How Net Metering Works

  1. The electricity goes through the Main Utility Meter. If you are using electricity in your home, the Solar electricity is used first. If you are using more electricity than the Solar system is producing then you buy the extra electricity you need from the Utility. If you are using less electricity than your Solar system is producing then the excess will go backwards through the Main Utility Meter and you will receive a credit on your bill for the power the Utility buys from you. This means that no matter if you are using the Solar Electricity you get credit for it, there is no wasted power.

Sample Month - With Solar

If you Use 700 KWh of Electricity x .14 = $98.00
and your Solar System Produces 400KWh x .14 = - $56.00
Your Net Bill = $42.00
